The Sculptures of Kieta Nuij

The bronze-human figures of Kieta Nuij (Heerlen, the Netherlands,  1960) are characterized by a unique, figurative language. In the combination of form and texture, which she uses, she unites extremes: the sophisticated with the rough, the lively with the motionless, the intact with the blemished. Pieces of rope, torn jute and rags: many of the materials used, are marked by the ravages of time, but transformed into bronze they reveal their innermost and inherent beauty.

This method is an expression of the miracle of the eternal cycle: the life that ends in order to create new life. Kieta Nuij combines this cycle with the human body. In her work she attempts to give expression to the experiences and emotions of man. The human figure is the upholder, the vehicle of expression, and expression itself. In her works, Kieta Nuij seeks the confluence of the two.
